As snow storms sweep across the Midwest in the US tonight, and threaten to hit NYC tomorrow, it’s only fair to wonder how the weather will impact the Fall 2011 Fashion Week runway shows at Lincoln Center.  The good news is that most of New York Fashion Week can be enjoyed without any weather interruptions simply by turning on your PC and watching the shows online.  I braved the snow and cold weather last year for the Fall 2010 collections and it was an experience.  There I was sitting across from Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington at the Carolina Herrera show.  Ironically, that was right after Anna proclaimed her Recessionista roots by going down to Macy’s in Queens for Fashion’s Night Out.

Two years ago, an independent fashion blogger like myself would never have gotten in to an exclusive event like Fashion Week.  But the economic downturn and the advent of social media have leveled the fashion playing field a bit.  Now bloggers are admitted to Fashion Week and Designers freely stream their runway shows on the Internet for all to see.  It’s very smart to open the doors via the web and let everyone see the collections.  The cost of Internet marketing is small compared to running a print ad campaign or a series of roadshows.  Designers who have streamed their shows on their Facebook pages, websites or the Fashion First website  have enjoyed increased website traffic and page views.  And the marketing benefits grow expotentially if the designers have their PR folks and bloggers like me Tweeting live from the shows using the #NYFW hashtag.  The use of Social Media at Fashion Week has grown so much, that next week will see the second annual Style Coalition and TheFind’s Fashion 2.0 Social Media Awards take place. You can see the 2011 winners after Feb. 16, where else but on the Internet at StyleCoalition.com.

Now everyone can enjoy fashion week and all you need is a good Internet connection.  If you’re interested in seeing some shows, here are a few of my favorites along with their web addresses. All times are listed in EST or New York City time. Remember most of the shows starts 30 minutes after the scheduled start times. It takes that long for all the celebrities, editors and buyers to get seated.
