The Recessionista’s Fashion News Update

There’s so much going on this week just at New York Fashion Week, that’s it’s hard to concentrate on all the other news in the world of fashion, and the many good deals that I have found.  So here’s a little summary update to keep you in the know.

First up, the First Lady, Michelle Obama in H&M.  I love her style sense.  It doesn’t matter if it’s a dress from a discounter or a couture garment, she varies her wardrobe choices and chooses both with great effect.   This week she turned up on the Today show wearing a $34.00 navy blue dress with white polka dots from H&M.  I was at H&M this week, and they have a couple variations on this dress in the store.  There is a sleeveless version, and a version that Mrs. O wore with three quarter sleeves.

Designer Rory Beca is launching  a collection at Forever 21. I’ve long been a fan of Los Angeles designer Rory Beca.  I usually look for Rory on sale at online club HauteLook or sample sales. But now, the designer is partnering with Forever 21 to launch a lower priced line.  It’s call Rory Beca for Forever, which will arrive March 4th, 2011. Priced from just $5.80 to $32.80.  To get all the details, check out The Budget Babe’s blog. She’s an expert Forever 21 shopper.

Betsey Johnson will launch a new, lower priced collection called Pink Patch at her runway show Feb. 14th. Via her Twitter channel, the designer says, “Betsey Johnson Pink Patch! I’m expanding the collection to offer my designs at a popular price point.”  Good for Betsey–all I can say is what took you so long? 🙂 Pink Patch will offer for under $100.00 US. There will be dresses, mini skirts, leggings, jackets, pants, tutus, over sized tanks, cropped tees, sweaters, and evening dresses.
