London Fashion Week: Sustainable Fashion with Fyodor Golan at Liberty London

Just in time for London Fashion Week, Liberty of London is launching an exclusive pop-up with British fashion brand Fyodor Golan. Known for their vibrant colours, tech fabrics and sportswear aesthetics, the brand will recreate their Spring/Summer 19 runway set design in womenswear on Level 1.

The duo, Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman teamed up with Plastic Oceans U.K to raise awareness around one of the largest dangers to marine life: plastic pollution. Their runway backdrop set is made from abandoned fishing nets and emulates coral covered driftwood, highlighting the damaging impact plastic waste has on our oceans– and it is stunning.  You have to see this set to believe it.

Fashion will continue to open up to environmental and social challenges and we believe that it will grow to lead the way into sustainable living whilst inspiring the consumer.

For the collection called “Lost & Found” sporty, surfer details are mixed with soft sailing silks, gathered, exaggerated and embroidered to create experiential environments for the wearer. Castaway elements found on beaches  are brilliantly included into the fabrication. These include everything from seashells and pearls to plastic waste, to create something very unique.

The ‘Lost & Found’ collection has been designed for both genders and features washed out hues in recycled denims and cottons. Taking inspiration from the ocean, sporty silhouettes are embellished with castaway elements; from seashells to pearls and plastic waste. To add iconic nostalgia, the duo collaborated with SEGA’s ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, focusing on early pixelated imagery that showcased raw silks in bold fuchsia, and cyan blue tones.

We are reusing the nets used for our London Fashion Week show but, again with the help of Plastic Oceans, we are adding new rounds of clean-ups so the viewer will really be able to sense the repurposed nets and the scale of waste that is routinely just floating around us.
