Actress Kate Bosworth models pieces from her new Topshop Collection

The new Topshop collected fronted by actress Kate Bosworth has arrived in stores and online.  The collection features shimmery holiday metallic tops, leather tops and winter jackets as well as stylish shoes.  The silhouettes are slim, in keeping with the uber  slim shape of the collection’s namesake, Ms. Bosworth.  The 46-piece collection is now available at Topshop stores worldwide, and on the web, with prices a start at $40.00 US and going up to $999.00 for a coat.   Aesthetically, this winter collection is pleasing, but it’s hard to get too excited about it with Phillip Lim for Target still on the racks at clearance prices and the charming Catherine Malandrino for Kohl’s collection still in stores.  Both the  Target and Kohl’s designer collaborations undercut the Kate Bosworth collection on price point in what has become an extremely competitive budget fashion market.

So what’s this collection all about beyond the celebrity branding? The monochromatic, metallic and red color palette for Ms.  Bosworth’s collection is simple and understated.  That’s a definite plus in my opinion.  I like classic looks especially for winter wear. Sizing for the collection ranges from US size 0 to size 12.   This is not a collection for the curvy as the cut is very straight in the hips and the bust.  There are a few oversized shirts and tunics designed to be worn with the collection’s slim hipped “skinny” leather trousers (with a sticker shock price of $590.00 US.)   Shoes are priced from $180.00 US to $250.00 US.  The sheepskin coats are priced from $795.00 to $995.00 US.  For those prices, you could buy a Burberry coat or a luxury designer item.    I like a lot of what Topshop does, but it’s not my go-to store for a $1,000 fashion purchase. I’m not sure Kate Bosworth has the celebrity cache to pull in the audience that will pay those prices for Topshop goods.

What do you think readers?  Are you excited about this Kate collection from Topshop or are you saving your money for when the “other” Kate, Kate Moss arrives at Topshop in the Spring of 2014?
