Affordable Luxury: MeChar Handbags

Recently, I was invited to a press preview of MeChar Handbags. Frankly, I’d never heard of MeChar before being invited to their showroom.  If you’re not familiar with this brand,  I have to tell you about it.  These are well priced, quality handbags that it’s a pleasure to tell The Recessionista readers about.   Compared to many more expensive brands, MeChar handbags are beyond comparable in quality for price.   However,  you may not have heard about them as MeChar bags are relatively new and not advertised as heavily as other luxury bags  (like say Louis Vuitton.) For review purposes, MeChar gifted me with a gorgeous black leather and lace shoulder bag with a matching lace business card holder that I have been carrying for over  two  months now.   There is no tearing of the strap or fraying at the edging on this bag.  The stitching on the bag is very durable.  This  MeChar shoulder bag holds up very well for day to day use or special occasion use. It’s also light to carry (which my aching back appreciates.)

The MeChar handbag line offers a wider variety of bags from leather clutches (the Edith clutch has been carried by Kate Beckinsale on the red carpet), to small leather goods and full size handbags.  All the bags are made with high-quality Italian leather or suede.  There’s no plastic here!

I’m impressed by the detailing on each bag, their secure closures (these don’t pop open) and the reinforced shoulder pad on the shoulder bags.   Charmaine Ho is the talented designer behind the MeChar brand.  From the design of these bags, it’s clear Ms. Ho designs for comfortable carrying and well as fashion.   I own many handbags and some I’ve had to sell on eBay because they are too heavy to carry when full.   The MeChar shoulder bag is one that if you invest in it, you will want to keep carrying because it is so comfortable to carry, even when it’s full . You can also carry your business cards or cell phone in the zip pocket on the back for easy access (see photo above), saving you from rifling through your handbag looking for those critical items.
