John Galliano Reform Collaboration Launches at ZARA after MET Cancellation

By  |

On the heels on his 2027  cancellation at The Met, designer John Galliano has launched a limited edition collection at low priced retailer ZARA. Galliano is the former head designer at DIOR who was recorded in 2011 making anti-semitic remarks in a Paris bar and shrieking that he loved Hitler.

Is Galliano x ZARA (Reform)   a strong retail move for ZARA or an ill-timed one? From my perspective, it’s ill-timed. While the collection maybe of interest to Galliano collectors, it is certainly not mainstream or what I would call commercial.  The collaboration looks like a cross between Napoleonic costumes and Kate Moss x Topshop.  The 15 piece collection ranges in price from $29.99 for an accessory to $999.00 for a gown/dress. According to a ZARA press release,  the collaboration is  “authored by the couturier John Galliano [and] conceived from archival Zara garments… using techniques native to haute couture”.

Will this collection sell out, or go on sale when consumers vote not to support John Galliano’s work as MetGala donors did?
