Melissa McCarthy’s ASOS Curve dress reminds me of Celia Birtwell’s prints

Melissa McCarthy stepped out on the red carpet at the Variety’s Creative Impact Awards this week in an ASOS Curve  Floral Wrap dress now on sale for $34.00 US on the e-retailer’s website.  That alone is news in a market where celebrities are courted by designers to wear expensive couture gowns. But even more striking to me than Ms. McCarthy looking fab in ASOS is the dress’s resemblance to classic vintage styles and prints from Celia Birtwell and Ossie Clark.

The ASOS dress seems to be a homage to Celia and Ossie’s vintage styles

Although the ASOS dress is not a copy of Celia’s print or an Ossie Clark design, it is reminiscent of their style as you can see from the comparison photos above.   With vintage Ossie Clark/Celia Birtwell dresses retailing for hundreds and even thousands of dollars, the ASOS look alike is a good deal for vintage lovers.
