Milly aficionados were treated to champagne, strawberries and the designer’s colorful makeup bags tonight a Bloomingdale’s New York. The little bags are as chic and colorful as other items in Michelle’s collection. Michelle adores prints and this special print is on her own design. Sometimes she licences vintage prints, but this little Clinique bag is her own creation. I love it. Frankly, I could see it on colorful accessories like scarves and winter necessities like Wellies and Umbrellas. Its like Lilly Pulitzer meets French style. Instead of Lily’s hot pink, like black designs are woven in for balance. That makes the piece compliment many styles. Here’s a close-up view:

I’m not the only one who thought this bag was charming. Check out these happy customers.

The pieces will be sold at Bloomingdale’s Y.E.S Contemporary Sportwear with prices starting at $300.00. Milly customers include Jill Bidden and Beyonce. Both celebs have been know to do their own shopping.
So here’s what’s coming from Milly for Spring.

Next up was a black shirt dress with embellishements. Michelle assures me this style is suitable for a variety of shapes and figures. The shiny accents allow you to take it from office to evening.

I’ve long admired Michelle Smith’s Milly line, but this first look gave me some new things to love. Her prints are amazing. In 2009, Milly was one of the first designers to recalibrate her pricing based on the current economy. She has a good sense of the market and what women like. To paraphrase Ceila Birtwell, “give me the pretty.” Her prints and designs are just that. Some of the women sitting around me were worried that the designs were only for the model thin. Not so says Michelle. “I design for a variety of shapes, not just the super skinny”, she notes. ” I think the shirt dress is an example of a versatile design many women can wear.” I agree. To learn more about “Milly” wait for next week, when her new fall line premieres at Fashion Week. Her show is scheduled for Wed. Feb. 17th at 3 pm. Stay tuned for details!
