 Kate Moss SS14 TOPSHOP

Looks vaguely familiar: Pieces from the Kate Moss Topshop SS14 collection a boho jacket, a jumpsuit & a one shoulder mini dress.

The  Kate Moss fashion collection returns to Topshop May 1, 2014.   But the collection won’t just be available at Topshop this time. For the first time Topshop will have retail partners selling the collection via NET-A-PORTER.COM, Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom online.  Recently, The Recessionista had a chance to get a sneak preview of the new offerings.  Here’s what you can expect from Kate Moss for Spring/Summer 2014. The collection is heavy on beach/resort style as well as the vintage styles Kate Moss is known for wearing. There are also pieces reminiscent of sellouts from earlier Topshop Moss collections like  boho jackets, a jumpsuit & a one shoulder mini dress (see above.)  With a mass market advertising campaign featuring everyone from model Cara Devlinge  to  the iconic Vivienne Westwood shilling it, this collection will probably be another sell out for Topshop with heavy reselling via eBay expected.

The style themes for the new Kate Moss for Topshop collection

Key design categories for this collection include:

  •  Balearic Dressing, a reflection of Kate’s love for the Balearic Islands.  This aspect of the collection features carefully embroidered smock-tops; silk blouses and a white kaftan that is based on a vintage find Ms. Moss  wears every summer. The bold Aztecs dress has a handmade feel and the heavily embroidered crochet lace dresses, which either skim the thigh or the ankle, are available in cream or black.
  • Pyjama dressing adds a totally new element to the Kate Moss TOPSHOP range. Silk satin sourced in London’s Soho carries two distinct prints: a subtle, distorted floral design and a vivid Oriental-inspired flower pattern. Both prints will be available in high-waisted trousers, blouses and an ultimate pyjama coat.
  • Cocktail Hour is flirtatious and sexy with hemlines either slashed at the thigh or falling to the floor. The intentional vintage effects, opulent trims and detailing such as cobweb beadwork, sequin bead fringing and crepe satin splicing, all provide a delicate and deluxe element to the designs.
  • Tailoring Noir introduces a beautiful selection of tailoring including tuxes and trouser suits in black and black gold metallic mixes, a bias cut liquid metallic lame dress and lame floral printed shirts – offering a chic, smart alternative to dressing up for a summer evening.
Balearic inspired pieces

Some of the Balearic inspired pieces from Kate Moss for Topshop SS14.

According to Topshop, ” The natural evolution of Kate’s understanding of the design process and her vision of the collection as a recently-appointed fashion editor for British Vogue is reflected in the introduction of luxurious fabrics.”  Some of these  fabrics include silk chiffons sourced in London Soho, gold lame from Italy and intricate lace from India.  Topshop also promises some pieces will feature meticulous attention to trimmings and details, including hand stitching and beading. There will be a “densely hand-beaded dress”  that will be available exclusively at Topshop.com and Net-a-Porter, costing £600 or $1,008 US.   That’s a long ways away from the cheap and chic pieces Tophop became known for.
