Kitsch & Glitz: Moschino x H&M Arrives Nov. 8

By  |

Looking for an overpriced pair of condom earrings? Or maybe a bit of Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck along with gold chains? Then you’re going to love the Moschino x H&M collection arriving in stores and online this week.  The over-the-top collection is a stark contrast to last year’s H&M collection with Erdem which featured beautiful floral prints and vintage style dresses and accessories.

Although this collection is not my style or taste, I can’t help but wonder if H&M shoppers will be storming the shelves to get this mix of Disney and MTV culture couture, or if only the eBay sellers will be swarming in.   In my opinion, this  collection might sell-out and then, be returned to H&M stores if it doesn’t sell on eBay for inflated prices.  When you consider that you can buy more tasteful Moschino items at retailers like Shopbop and Nordstrom Rack, I think the Moschino x H&M collection loses appeal.

What do you think readers? Will you shop this collection or stay in bed? Although I have gone to almost every H&M collection opening for the past 10 years, I’ll be passing on shopping Moschino x H&M.  The over the knee boots with the chain are good looking, but not or me.  In the words of Moschino designer Jeremy Scott, “It’s cartoon couture mixed with a street wear vibe doused with hip hop worthy amounts of bling bling to create a totally Moschino look.”  That’s a look that will have a very specific target audience, not the mass market H&M usually goes after.
