LA Fashion Week: Cynthia Rowley Fashion Show with LA Contemporary Ballet

By  |

Here’s something on the fashion scene that is extremely unique– fashions from designer Cynthia Rowley (some  inspired by Dr. Seuss) presented in collaboration with dancers from Los Angeles’ American Contemporary Ballet.  This one of a kind fashion presentation was recently shown at the Melet Mercantile in downtown Los Angles. The whimsical style that Ms. Rowley is known for was combined with the flowing movements of ballet and the humor of Dr. Seuss provided for a very special evening.

Fashions in the presentation were previously shown during Ms. Rowley’s Fall/Winter 2019 & Spring 2020 collections at New York Fashion Week.

This glamorous sliver dress was one of my favorite pieces from the Cynthia Rowley presentation,

Pieces shown at the presentation can be found for sale on the designer’s website at CynthiaRowley.com. Two very special items from the presentation were the CR x Dr. Seuss silk scarves based on art from the Dr. Seuss book, “Oh The Places You’ll Go!” The scarves are priced at $165.00 each. The attractive & colorful prints on the scarves take the art from the Dr. Seuss book to a whole new level.

“After showing during fashion week we wanted to recontextualize the show everywhere it goes. So in LA we brought these four creative forces together, each in its own form creating a collective story,” says designer Cynthia Rowley. “These dancers are strong female athletes, giving us a new way to animate the collection through movement.”

For the presentation, the Melet Mercantile featured  imaginative original artwork and drawings from Dr. Seuss throughout the space.

“Contemporary fashion and ballet trace back to the same historical roots,” says Lincoln Jones, artistic director of Los Angeles’ American Contemporary Ballet. “The idea behind this show was to bring that shared background into the forefront, and to reveal in the clothing, styling, and the movement a relationship which sits just under the surface.”
