Since 2010 ASOS has teamed up with the charitable initiative clothing workshop SOKO Kenya. This week ASOS launches their new “Made In Kenya” collection with the SOKO Kenya initiative. The collection is now available for sale on  the ASOS website ( I found it via my trusty Google Alerts.)  I had the opportunity to see some of the collection in person last week at a preview ASOS held in Los Angeles.  Based on the samples I saw, the clothing is much better looking than the pictures on the ASOS website.

The Made in Kenya designs, all produced in Africa, include graphic floral prints in black and red on striking midi dresses & jumpsuits.  There’s also an adorable print featuring the drawings of local Kenyan school children on shorts and a matching top. The art for the print comes from drawings done by children at a a local primary school. The children were asked children to draw ‘what they see outside their window’. The resulting sketches were used by the ASOS design team “to inspire a range of jersey sweats and structured short-suits embroidered with giraffes, elephants and the Kenyan landscape.” These prints are not only charming, but uniquely fashionable. See below for a look at the “Made in Kenya” collection from ASOS.  Standouts include the dresses and the floral A-line satin coat with the black graphical print (priced at $137.05.)  Pricing starts at approximately $41.00 US for a tee shirt.  Sizes range from UK 6/ US 2 to UK 16 /US 12.
