Meghan Markle popularizes Los Angeles label Black Halo’s “Jackie O” dress

By  |

Bride to be, Meghan Markle turned heads yesterday at the Commonwealth Women’s Empowerment Reception at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London. The event was held to discuss women’s equality issues. The stylish Miss Markle wore a simple little black dress “made in the USA’ rather than Britain. The dress she wore was Black Halo’s understated, “Jackie O” dress named for –you guessed it–style icon Jacklyn Kennedy Onassis.  Here at The Recessionista, we’ve been fans of the Black Halo label for some time. Last year brand recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the “Jackie O” dress.

The “Jackie O” dress features a striking asymmetrical collar and a slimming pencil skirt. The dress is made in a version that is sleeveless, as well as a long sleeve version.   The style of the dress elongates the figure,  “designed to make women feel 2 in taller and 5 lbs thinner” according to Black Halo designer Laurel Berman.   The dress is sold for $375 US or £266  and is sold at a wide variety of retailers including Shopbop, Nordstrom,  Bloomingdales and Black Halo.   Although the dress is sold out today at many retailers, it is still available online at the Black Halo website.

Thanks to Meghan Markle for popularizing Los Angeles based Black Halo and their affordable designs!  It’s great to see her as a style ambassador for her hometown’s designers.
