NY Fashion Week: LANYU Shows Luxury Looks for Fall 2017

By  |

Stunning baby blues, wistful ivory and soft pinks were part of the color palette for the LANYU show at New York Fashion Week for Fall 2017.  The beautiful colors were a welcome antidote from all the dark browns, beige and of course black shown by other designers for Fall 2017. LANYU is the namesake brand of  Chinese-born designer Lan Yu.  The LANYU Fall/Winter 2017 collection was a Valentine to the Chinese town of Suzhou, the home of Lan Yu’s mother.  The designer showcased 40 looks inspired by the city’s architecture, natural beauty and serene canals. Drawing inspiration from these and the designer’s childhood memories, LANYU’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection incorporated soothing mint and jade hues, as well as power pink and sky tones.

Luxury fabrication and detail was on display in LANYU Fall 2017.  The collection featured oversized coats and statement trousers offset by feminine dresses in LANYU’s trademark fitted silhouettes. The luxurious fabrics included jeweled tweed, marled wool, cashmere and silk on velvet with touches of leather and metal.  The very feminine collection featured traditional Chinese Su embroidery and romantic details such as multicolored woven lace, butterfly patterns, dyed camel hair. Some garments featured gorgeous gold embellishments on tulle, representative of the dreamlike nostalgia the designer feels for Suzhou.

This is such a a beautiful collection, I doubt anyone will really want to buy a macrame styled bodysuit, but some of these things are shown just for impact on the runway.  The beautiful coats and dresses are more commercially accessible for retail buyers.
