The long awaited Altuzara collection for Target arrives at Target store, Target.com and Net-a-Porter tomorrow, Sept. 14, 2014.  I’ve had a few requests from regular readers of The Recessionista about the best ways to get the items on your shopping list.   If you want to get your Altuzara for Target, it’s going to take an investment of  your time  this Sunday morning, but here are our tried and true tips for shopping Target’s designer collaborations.

  1.  Check the list of Target stores with Altuzara in your area.  If you plan to go in-store to try things on , check the list of Target stores online who are carrying the collaboration.  Not all stores will have it , so it’s worth doing your research today.  Go to the Target website and enter your zipcode to shop the store in your area.
  2. Get up early on Sunday morning either to go in-store or online.   There’s no good way around this one.  If you want this collaboration, you’ll have to cut short your Sunday morning sleep-in.   On Target. com, I’ve seen these collections posted in the early am , usually after 1:30 am PST or 4:30 am EST.  If you’re on the West coast, you might stay up late, on the East coast you’ll have to get up early.
  3. Arrive at your Target store early to shop, at least 30 min before opening. Target will open at 8:00 am on Sunday morning.  For best shopping results, plan to be at your store 30 minutes early and wait in the line outside.  In my experience, Target lines for the designer collaborations are short and orderly, however when the doors are open, you’ll have to make a run for it.  Wear comfortable shoes so you can move quick.   At Phillip Lim 3.1, shoppers ran toward the handbags first and those were the first items to go.  This time, I think the apparel will be first to go, then maybe the shoes & boots.
  4. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, you’ll want to spend some time shifting through the racks to get your picks and try them one.  Plan to be at Target 45 min to 1 hour trying to stuff on, and waiting for items to be bought back to the racks from the fitting room that you may have missed.
  5. Shop online & save with eBates: if  you shop through the  eBates  portal site  you can save 2.5%  purchases.

According to an article on the collection in the New York Times, this may be the best budget collection Target has yet produced.  Mr. Altuzarra asked for an got quality assurance from Target on some of the details.  According to the New York Times, “he had Oxford Collections, a partner for production and sourcing, rework the elastic of his peasant blouse to ensure that the neckline would always be evenly gathered. He asked for and got refinements, including fabric-covered buttons, French seaming in the garment’s underside as well as strategically placed darts, and the elaborately asymmetrical construction that would give his skirts their swing.”

Good luck tomorrow.  Leave a comment if you plan to get up early to shop this one.  Some of you may decide to sleep in and pass on this one, preferring to shop online and taking your chances with the always risky Target.com.
